Looks like I haven't been updating my blog since... well... Christmas. Anyway, here's two new reviews I posted on yelp today:

Blue Duck Tavern
Atmosphere: A
Bar: B+ (small, but very friendly with a good selection)
Service: A
Food: A

Synopsis: I highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely go back. I just re-read the menu and it looks like some things change with the seasons, so I'm excited to try whatever they think up next. (Full review here)

Wildfire
Atmosphere: B+
Bar: B+
Service: F
Food: C-

Synopsis: Overall, I was very disappointed with the service and food quality. Perhaps the food would have come out better if we all got steak (since it's a steakhouse afterall), but while in the bar I saw a ton of seafood flying out to diners, which is why many of us tried it. The server could have stopped by to tell us the kitchen was backed up, but instead we rarely saw him, except while he was massaging another server while she was folding napkins. The restaurant has separate folks for busing tables, filling water, serving, etc. I'm unsure then, why our water glasses were never refilled without asking and what kept our server so busy that we never saw him. I'm pretty sure there won't be a next time for me to find out. (Full review here)

This year I couldn't decide between a fake tree and a real tree. On one hand cutting down a tree every year is not very environmentally friendly, however the trees are renewable and definitely replanted at the tree farm they came from. And really, if we don't buy one of those trees that was cut what do they do with them? So, we decided to get a live tree for another year! Here it is in all its decorated glory! We settled on a Frasier fir and we carted it home on top of jason's bmw. That was awesome, but unfortunately we (I) forgot to take a picture, so you'll have to take our word for it.

I know everyone has their own story about the snow today, so here's mine. Jason and I left home at 7:30 to go to the office because I had a 10am meeting. We heard about the multiple accidents on the toll road and that it was a parking lot, so we jumped on the back roads. That was not a good decision. We drove for 1 hour and 15 minutes before turning around. We had only made it 5 miles from home. It was difficult to turn around, because as each minute passes, you sort of think that maybe that will be the minute that the traffic clears up, but it didn't... minute after minute. Anyway, we turned around and it took us about a half hour to get home, so that we could sit on the couch and work. Working at home sure beats sitting in a parking lot. Of course, we still had to go into the office around noon and work until the traffic piled back up after 5, but it was a million times better than the morning.

Here's a pic I took at 10:30 to send to my co-workers who didn't believe it was snowing since I work down in Pentagon City.

For a seafood restaurant, their only non-seafood entree (the grass fed black angus steak) was the best. Most dishes are served with risotto of some sort, appetizers, entrees, and even desserts feature risotto. Overall, the experience was not overly pleasant. I probably wouldn't go back, but from reading the other reviews, it sounds like our experience was out of place.

So, a few things happened this week, the highlights are that I started a new job on Monday and I ran a half marathon today! So, now that I'm sitting on the couch trying not to move my legs too much, I thought I'd catch up on a few blogs.

My job is going well so far. I'll be starting with the customer tomorrow, so we'll see how it is when I start doing work!

The half marathon went pretty well. If you haven't heard me talk about it, check out more info at the Nike site. I ran almost the entire thing, which was more than I was intending. I ran 6 miles to my folk's house, my dad jumped out of the house and joined me for the remainder. He wanted a decent workout, so we ran the next 4 together pretty well, then I started losing some steam. I walked up a couple of hills, but finished the thing out running (albeit slowly!).

After I thought it would be great to get some breakfast at Rio Grande, one of my favorite sunday brunch destinations. Unfortunately, my body had some different ideas. My legs were getting stiff, which was to be expected, but I also got really nauseous. So, I ended up just laying down on the floor and hoping for the best. Jason went over to Potomac River Running and asked them if there was a special remedy to give me to make me not sick. They gave him some Endurox R4.
He came home with an individual pack of this stuff and some huevos mexicanos. After drinking that mix, (oh yeah, and paying homage to the porcelain throne) I suddenly felt better and started getting some energy back. I ate a little breakfast and am now able to sit up, move around, and blog to you.

So, after finishing, I felt pretty good. Then when I got so nauseous, I was thinking I would never run that far again. Now, after the magic pink mix, I'm thinking I could probably run that far again as long as that mix is close by for when I finish.

As fall is quickly approaching, I thought it was necessary to harvest a bunch of my serrano peppers from the garden and preserve them for the winter. I wanted to pickle some of them so that I can use them in my superbowl chili and other exciting winter dishes. I bought some glass jars from wegmans and was pretty set to jar the peppers when jason said, "hey, don't you have to boil the jars or something?" Ha. Well, it's a good thing he said something because I didn't know about any of that stuff. His mom always makes jellies and other jarred goodies, so he had a little inkling that i was forgetting some things. We called her up and she recommended this book:

We bought the book and it is great. Not only did I learn how to jar my peppers safely, but I also learned better methods for drying my herbs and freezing some of the peppers for different uses. So, now I have canned hot peppers, frozen some peppers, frozen some garden fresh salsa, and am looking forward to drying my herbs this week!
