Sagging Pants Court

13981869*

According to this article on CNN, "cities across the U.S. consider banning saggy pants in public." Really? Is legislation needed for this cause?

"I'm tired of looking at behinds," council member in Shreveport, Louisiana, says.

Apparently it is. We can't have behinds exposed all over our cities! Sagging pants are an epidemic! It is becoming a major concern around the country!

But honestly, while these cities are starting a U.S. dress code, let's take it a step further. I'm sick of looking at people who wear clothes that are too tight, can we ban that too? I'm also sick of panty hose with open toe shoes (see here), can we please have legislation for that?

*Picture from another article about the proposed legislation. Here's a funny quote that propagates stereotypes from that article: "We're not out to get plumbers whose pants creep down while they're working on your pipes," O'Neal said.

If only all kids were this smart

Wow, just wow. I saw this on a site that just launched a few weeks ago: http://www.filmdrunk.com/index.phtml

You guys might like the site, he basically talks about anything to do with movies. He has a little gossip in there too, but mostly only if it relates to movies.

Running Intimidation Overcome

In October, I started walking as part of my workout. I gave into the fact that I'm getting old and old people walk to work out. (of course that's not true, walking is a good workout, but in my mind, running is better) I tried to get into it, but frankly, I'm not ready to be old, so by mid-November, my walking evolved to jogging. In December, I decided it was time to get some new shoes, so I timidly went to the running store where the running store staff intimidate the hell out of me.

The store manager is like a super runner in my mind. I see her running all over town, always at a fast pace. So, even though I consider myself fairly comfortable in most situations, I end up being the geeky kid making awkward conversation in the store. I make stupid comments like, "oh you know, I'm just a jogger... I walk mostly... wow.. you run a lot" I wouldn't want her to think that I would put myself in the same category as her by calling myself a runner, so this verbal nonsense keeps flying out of my mouth. Hell, I even felt uncomfortable getting new shoes, like I don't deserve them or something, so, I didn't want to get on the treadmill to do the foot analysis. I ended up getting new shoes, but they were the same model as my previous shoes and I didn't even know if they were good for my feet. Walking away from the store, I had stars in my eyes thinking about how I could become a runner like her.

By April, when I went to get new shoes at the running store, I was still intimidated by the workers, but I knew it was time to do the running analysis. Luckily, only the running guy was in there, not the super girl. He did the analysis and even with my mildly awkward conversation, I walked away with a great pair of shoes. In those shoes, I've been able to increase my distance and speed. I feel like I'm actually getting somewhere now.

Over the past few months, I've worn out those shoes, so last night Jason and I headed over to Potomac River Running. While Jason was trying on some shoes, a guy came up to me and started asking me some questions about running socks. I told him that I didn't work there and he said, "oh sorry! you looked so good standing there, I thought you worked here"

Me! I was mistaken for a worker in a running store! Jason can attest that I was so thrilled, the guy made my night. So this morning, even though my legs were tired from yesterday's run, we had to be at work for an early meeting, and today would have been a fine day off, I got out of bed and ran. I thought about last night at the store and realized that guy's perception of me doesn't make me a runner. Instead, I thought about the hundreds of miles I've put on each pair of my shoes over the last year. I thought about how much I've improved in speed and distance. And so, I ran hard. I didn't stop when my legs screamed to me. I didn't blink when the sweat was dripping down into my eyes. I didn't slow down when the humidity was pressing down on me. Because finally... I Am a Runner.

Restaurant Review: Ardeo

Last Friday night Jason and I went to Ardeo for restaurant week. My review is on yelp, but here are the highlights.

Atmosphere: A  (comfortable, clean, simple decor)
Bar: -- (attached to Bardeo, we didn't hang out there, but it looked nice)
Service: B
Food: B-

Overall, the experience was pleasant, but it felt rushed and the dishes had too much going on in my opinion. This might be a nice place to try outside of restaurant week when the wait staff can relax and allow the diners to relax as well.

Restaurant Review for Farrah Olivia

Last night we went to Farrah Olivia in Alexandria for restaurant week. I've posted my review on yelp... here's the overall rating if you are too lazy to click to my review.

Atmosphere: B+  (comfortable, business casual)
Bar: -- (not a fair category really because they have a good selection of wine, but hardly any bar)
Service: A
Food: B

Was it good? Yes

Would I go back? Probably not. Mostly because there are lots of other places to try and this one didn't particularly stand out in any one area.

Virgin Festival

1021344996_385e1b031a

Jason and I went to the Virgin Festival outside of Baltimore, MD this weekend. It was a really good time. I only took 2 pics with my phone because they didn't allow cameras with removable lenses, but Jason took a bunch that he'll probably post soon.   The highlights of the show for me were:

1. The Police - as shown in my excellent cameraphone shot above. They were really awesome, had 2 encores, and pretty much played their biggest hits to please the audience. Sting is still hot, even though he's old.

2. Matisyahu - He was really good and should have been on the main stage. We watched Regina Spektor on the main stage, then ran over to the second stage to catch the second half of Matisyahu. The second stage was packed compared to the main stage. Regina was good, but Matisyahu had good beats and stage presence. The crowd loved him.

3. CSS - They were really entertaining. I didn't really know who they were, but I had actually heard some of their music before thanks to Jason. There were dancing trees in the crowd - three people dressed as trees (really funny because they were giving hugs to everyone, so they were tree-huggers...haha). Anyway, she kept talking about the trees and then had them come up on stage to dance with her and they really got into it.

4. The Fratellis - I really like them and they put on a good show. This was one of the first bands we saw and they were a good way to start the show for us.

Other than that, I have to say that the festival was really well run. We had VIP tickets which meant we had special viewing areas, additional tent areas for shade, real bathrooms, and private VIP bars. Both the tents and bars were a blessing because it was well over a hundred out in the sun. The Ravens/Skins game on Saturday was clocked at 140 degrees on the field and the stands were about 120 degrees, so we must have been right in that temperature range too. So, we watched a lot of the shows from the tent viewing area with icy beverages keeping us cool.

Most of you know that I'm not a big concert person, however this was so well run and a lot of fun, that I will seriously consider going back next year. And VIP tickets are a must.

Breaking News about Sex!

Why People Have Sex: It Feels Good.  Really, I'm glad this was front page news today. Before this study I just couldn't figure out why people would have sex. The funniest thing is that researchers "exhaustively" compiled a list of 237 reasons why people have sex, but then after publishing the report, people kept coming up with more reasons! They better do another 5 year study to research it.
