J.R.'s
Friday we were looking for a place to eat, our only requirements were no wait and Jason wanted a steak. We decided to head to Tysons to see what we could find and decided to check out J.R.'s steakhouse. It always looks empty from the outside and there was definitely not a wait. We got right in and were escorted to a cozy table with comfortable leather chairs. The lights were low, the interior was all wood, and it seemed like an old club of some sort. (The place boasts it was started in 1978) It reminded me of an old drinking club, like my grandfather's Elks club, but classier.
When we sat down, we were given a crock of cheddar and crackers, very unique and delicious. The cheddar was like the cheese that comes in the middle of a crackers and cheese pack out of a vending machine. It was definitely different. Jason ordered his sidecar and I ordered a Merlot. We thought the crackers and cheese took the place of bread, but we were wrong. We were brought a fresh, hot loaf of bread with our salad. The bread was delicious and hot.
For our entrees, I got a special of 2 4oz blackened filet medallions, steak fries, and sugar snap peas. Jason got a sirloin. Both were very delicious, the beef was very fresh and you could tell. Of course, I could only eat about 1 oz of my 8oz of beef after devouring the fresh bread. (Jason will have the rest with eggs for breakfast tomorrow!)
The only complaint was that the service was lacking. We waited quite a while to order our drinks, then waited for the drinks, and then to order entree, and so on.
We probably won't go back and will hit the Palm or some place next time, but now we can say we tried it....
