Good Food, Bad Service

We went to Clyde's Monday night to celebrate my parents' anniversary. The past few times we've been to Clyde's, the service has been terrible, but the food is always good, so we thought we'd give it another shot. Now, keep this in mind, my sister and her boyfriend went two weeks ago and the service was so bad that the manager gave them free drinks and appetizers. Ok, so here's our story.

We arrived around 6:30 and got seated immediately.  We sat for at least 15 minutes before a server walked up. He said that he was sorry for the confusion. We let him know that we were not confused, just hungry. He said that because of the wait, a few appetizers would be on him. So, we ordered drinks and appetizers. We got the drinks in about 10 minutes, which isn't terrible, but they gave the wrong drinks to everyone. I guess he couldn't remember that mom got an ice tea and dad got a scotch and soda. That was a bit confusing for him.

We got our appetizers, they were good and then we ordered dinner. At this point, mom wanted the bread that you usually get after sitting down. We waved down the server (because he clearly wasn't coming back) and convinced him to bring us bread.

Then we waited a reasonable amount of time for dinner. Which they again gave to all the wrong people. Finally, after sorting it all out, we got to eat.

Jason and I split the roast duck with orange glaze. It was served with fresh green beans and vanilla polenta. The dish was the perfect size once split for two and the food was delicious. I was pleasantly surprised by the vanilla polenta, I never thought of putting those flavors together, but they turned out great.

After we had finished eating, we waited a really long time for them to clear the plates. Finally our server came back and started clearing. He gave us the dessert menus, but we were stuffed and just asked for the check. The check came and had the appetizers on it, so we had to wave down the server again to ask him if there was a mistake. He acted innocent, "oh, 'he' left them on there?" I don't know if he suddenly started talking in third person, but he ran off to get us a new check, then we paid and left.

So, the food was delicious, but the service, once again was really bad. Clyde's used to be one of the fancy spots you could visit and count on good service and good food, but that doesn't seem to be the case any longer. In fact, we haven't had good service there in the past year. We used to eat there at least once a month and now we probably won't go back for many months until we forget how poor the service was.

Clydes is only good during the summer when you can sit outside. That way the bad service doesn't matter, and you can end the evening by being asked to leave, always saving a few dollars.

What ever happened to the Stop Making Sense October party?
