for Jenna...

it pains me to hear the news that our beloved little sister, Jenna, passed away the night of March 29th, 2005. i say "our" even though there is no relationship to most of us, but that is how we all thought of her. at 22, Jenna was the youngest of our friends, brought to us through her older sister Kim, a long time friend. our hearts go out to jon, kim, and the rest of their family.

living with Leukemia over last year, you have never met someone so strong and so full of the joys of life. her personality was intoxicating, you could not help but be happy when she was in the room before, after, and even during her therapy. she was a spirited, beautiful, bright young woman who was loved and will be missed by all.

Just last week we received an email from kim speaking of how Jenna had gathered her own team for the "Fauquier Relay for Life" on Saturday, June 4th. It's a 12 hour walk-a-thon to benefit the American Cancer Society. it is because of this organization that Jenna was able to battle her disease for as long as she did and we would like show our appreciation by giving back. the team has a goal that they are trying to meet and i would like them to not even have to think about it. if you feel that you would like to contribute, you may contact me and i will make sure it gets to kim.

from the email:
All donations are tax deductible since they are made out to AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY and I can give receipts for cash. All of the donations go to ACS and I can provide the % that goes to research, admin, marketing, etc if interested.

we will miss you Jenna.

yeah internetin'

welcome to the 2000's

finally got the cable broadband installed in the house. dude came at 2pm on a saturday after an all night bender. i was still in bed. and he was about 2 weeks early.

so one cable modem, router borrowed from pops, and trip to best buy tonight for a card, i will be internettin all over the place. this does open up a world of oportunity for us. Steph can look at wedding stuff til her hearts content and i, well, i have no freekin reason to have this. by the time i come home everyday, the last thing i want to do is get back on the computer. i know that may be *blasphemous to some of my readers, but it is true. i have no need for a broadband connection. the only saving grace is the possibility to use it for phone service too and save some $$

a Vonage ad banner popped up on my hotmail window today. yeah that shit works on me sometimes. now, i have never been known to be on the bleeding edge of technology (yes i realize that Vonage or VoIP is not bleeding anymore) so i am a bit reserved. but it would save me $5 a month on a Verizon phone line that does not even let me make long distance calls. that alone sounds pretty cool to me. plus there seems to be some perks that lets just say KICK ASS. i mean i can check voice mail over the computor? where the hell have i been the last 5 years. that is cool. caller ID, call waiting, unlimited calling, long distance... what is that? seems like a good deal, but i am still approaching it with a tenative poise.

thoughts on VoIP or what i can do with all my new found broadband? no P0rn please i am about to be married. give me at least another month before i am down loading bang buss vol 1 - 89939939...

another idea... gone...

i had this idea years ago. except i called it desktop camouflage . and of course i was too lazy to do it.

...well... too lazy and did not have a digital camera at the time.

you miss me?

i am going to be honest here. i have nothing to say. the entire purpose of this post is to get the Irish guy off the front, but i will ramble a bit while i am here and get everyone caught up.

internets:
signed up for adelphia cable internet. i never "conveniently ran into" the nieghbors to ask if i could tag on theirs. so we should be a connected household starting in april.

power of 3:
i am slowly rebuilding the devistating effects of Stephanie's rule of 3. last week i ebayed up another ipaq for her. hopefully we have learned our lesson and in the immortal words of Juvenile "back that thing up".

office space:
this one is a two parter. i am still in Tysons which is great and i finally got assigned a perminant cube which is even better. unfortunatly there is a guy in there that refuses to leave. think of it as a corporite sit-in if you will.

2nd, i watched office space last night for the first time in years. ol berger has it right (yes i just made a sex and the city reference), we were not meant to live like this. i cant get the idea of moving to an island out of my head. they need consultants in st. kitts?

celebration bitches

today is the day that i get to celebrate my Irish heritage. this is a welcome vacation from my Native American heritage that cries everyday for what you people have done to the land that you stole from me.

did i just type that? oops.

anyways, i want you all to have a great day full of green beer, irish songs, potatoes, and people pretending to be Irish!

cheat'n, cuss'n, fight'n

on the heals of hough's rant associating NASCAR with ignorance, i feel i should defend my sport.

coming off of a win in las vegas, Jimmie Johnson was found in violation for being below the minimum hieght reqirement. 2nd place finisher, rookie, Kyle Busch was penalized for having a rear fender too high. both drivers were fined 25 points and their crew chiefs were suspended for 2 weeks.

fines are common in NASCAR. but this one makes me appriciate the sport again. Kevin Harvick was docked 25 driver points because during qualifying his gas tank read "full" but later found out that it only had 4 gallons in it. it was rigged. awesome. the reason this is a big deal is because during qualifying all cars need to be on equil playing field. having only 4 gallons made the car lighter, thus faster. he had the fastest time until he got caught.

Harvick denies any knowledge of this, but his crew chief, who was suspended 4 weeks said he was not “sorry” for being “creative”. “If I had to do it again, I’d still play it to try to get away with it, because I know how I got caught,”

that is freeking awesome, maybe there is some hope for the sport after all. keep on cheat'n, cuss'n, fight'n and i'll keep watch'n

this just in!!!

Potts is still alive.

some folks would remeber Potts as the smart assed mid-westerner who came to PPC during its HayDay about 2 years ago. he left the company and moved to chi-town shortly thereafter. we have had minimal news from young Potts since his departure, other than a few random emails, and a couple un-fullfilled promises to stop by when he was "in town".

but this proves that he is alive and a reader of Ice Cold. no doubt heard about it from Kanye West. you're my boy Kanye! WHERE YOU AT?!

oh and, what up Potts...

tards - the season finale

folks, i am both excited and saddened to bring you this news. it is such a GRAND finale in the tard saga, yet i hate to see it end. the events unfolded like this.

a couple weeks ago pops receives a phone call from officers investigating one of the tards. at this time i do not remember if it was Jason or Oliver.

last week i learn that i have a coworker that lives near the tards as well. we talked about them and laughed. i was more excited that i had a 2nd source since pops is not always around.

monday morning my 2nd source comes through with breaking news:
"there were 5 cop cars and cops hiding in the bushes with their guns drawn outside the crazy house yesterday (Sunday) morning. I don't know what happened, but I walked my dog back in forth in front of the house a bunch of times to keep an watching it all. It didn't end in a blaze of gunfire, so I am a bit disappointed in that."

since pops was sleeping he saw nothing.

now the events to follow happened kinda quick and i was informed 2nd party. i will do my best to reconstruct the situations.

receive an email from old roommate chip:
"When I was pulling in the driveway, an unmarked car was driving behind me. I thought they were pulling in behind me, but instead they stopped in front
of the tards house and started taking pictures. I think some real good
stuff is going to go down in the near future. Might be time to invest in a
video camera."

spoke with old roommate charlie who swears up and down there was a tard on the morning news wednesday. he said it was Oliver, and that he was wanted for larceny.

all of this made sense to me. a lot of activity, tard in trouble with the law. but nothing could have prepared me for what i researched this morning.

from the washington post:
"A 14-year-old girl who ran away last week with a man she met on the Internet was discovered Saturday morning in a McLean home, and the 22-year-old man who allegedly took her there is now on the run, Fairfax County police said yesterday."

article goes on to say:
"Police allege that Oliver ***, who lives there with his twin brother and grandmother, sexually assaulted the girl. He is charged with one count of carnal knowledge of a child without force, a felony punishable by up to five years in prison."

in a follow up article:
"A McLean man being sought for allegedly sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl he met on the Internet turned himself in to Fairfax County authorities Monday night, police said yesterday."

"Smith was charged with carnal knowledge of a child without force. He was arraigned yesterday and ordered held without bond."

just let that information marinate a sec.

ok so on a personal note, i am a bit ashamed that i got scooped on the tards. i mean i feel kindof responsible for bringing them into your lives, the news should have come through me. but if i was going to be scooped i guess i am glad it was the post. and i must report a correction. we were under the impression that the tards were:
a) younger
b) not into kiddie porn
c) living with mother rather than grand mother
d) not into abducting 14 year old girls.

had we known this stuff we would have blown the whistle on them a long time ago. all i can say is that, we knew something like this was going to happen. i am just glad that they got busted before someone was chopped up in the basement.

although... Jason is still free...

**UPDATE**
here is the channel 9 video footage.

it seems as if they both lived across the street from us and with their grandmother a few miles down the road. so the girl was not kept across the street from us.

puttin on the Ritz

i know i have already posted about the delicious Peanut Butter Ritz Bits, but as i sit here at 10:30 am downing a bag full because i cannot wait until lunch, i begin to ponder. what makes these snacks so delectabe?

i have devoured box after box of these treats and i will admit some boxes taste better than others. i have just figured out why. it is the salt content. some boxes have considerably less salt. but we all know the saltier the better. this is the case for my current ones. soooo salty, soooo delicious.

does anyone else have a romantic love affair with a snack food? i am not talking a good time Charlie type, i am talkking a long lasting relationship.

anyone else get the impression that i am reaching for site content these days?

"DO IT!!!!"

so back in the day when the crew cut was cool, Jr. and i had a name for it. remember Bradley Buzzcut from Beavis and Butthead?

he used to scream "kick me in the Jimmy!" to the boys til he was red in the face to prove how tough he was.

dude, i saw a wicked sweet kick me in the jimmy the other day. i am talkin skin close on the sides and a good 1.5" vertical on the top.

AWESOME! here are some other sweet ones...

eves dropping

so i was not really eves dropping on the lady in the cube next to me, but i am pretty sure i am the only one that could hear her. and i am pretty sure she did not intend for me to hear it.

she was on the phone earlier talking about how some guy may have herpies. later in the conversation she mentions that the doctor better call her back today. followed by a reference to killing the guy if she has it, but quickly back to defend that she believes him, and that he would have told her. conversation went on and topic changed with, I will have to deal with whatever happens and that she is having a pretty good day because her account had $3 in it then her state tax check came through, so the doctor will call with good news.

i hate to break it to her. and i want to move cubes.

classic

went to subway for lunch today.

me: "6 inch BMT on white please"
lady: "tomatoes?"
me: "no, lettuce"
lady: "and then?"
me: "pickles"
lady: "and then?"
me: "black olives"
lady: "and then?"
me: "mayo"
lady: "and then?"
me: "salt and pepper"
lady: "and then?"
me: "vinager"
lady: "and then?"
me: "no and then"
me: "thank you"

ticket

so i recieved a bill from DC parking authority last night for $50. basically a delinquent $25 parking ticket with an additional $25 late fee. problem is that i never recieved the origonal ticket. i remeber where i was that day and i was in DC so i give them the benifit of doubt that i was ticketed. but i do not feel i should pay a late fee on a ticket that i would have paid ontime had i actually recieved the ticket. does anyone know how this works or ever had it happen to them? can they penalize you for not having the ticket? or is it your word against theirs? and where the hell did the origonal ticket go? did someone steal it? that is a pretty mean trick if you ask me.

etiquette

can someone tell me the proper etiquette in approaching a neighbor about splitting the cost of their broadband?

we have decided that dial-up is too painful for our home, but DSL is not available. since we have Direct TV, cable internet is priced out of our range. i have tried to sniff out some free range WiFi and have been successful on occasion, but we need a stronger signal. and the full service signal simply labeled "home" is taunting me. i have done some investigative work and found that it belongs to our neighbors, a young couple out of Tech. in speaking with them soon after moving in, they did offer a password for "light browsing until we get broadband", but i declined.

somehow i need to bring it back up and offer to split the cost with them. we have a good repor with them since we have been to their house for dinner and hung out on occasion, but i am not sure we are on the favor level yet. also, he is a big techie type person. seems like one of those people that would be very conscious of his bandwidth.

am i over analyzing this? would any of you object to a neighbor approaching you offering to pay half your broadband for light browsing? how would i bring this up again?
