time to move on?
this post is mainly more for me than for you, my loyal readers. it is a release. it is a bit of soul searching. when is it a good time to move on in life? one day do you wake up and decide i need a new job, house, wife?
all of these thoughts are being sparked by the opportunity to take a new job with BP. an offer that was as good as gold until the company you are with decides to offer the same thing allowing you to keep your comfortable little nest you have grown so accustomed to. we are not talking money here, they are both pretty comparable, we are talking about career growth, and again both line up the same.
i have come to the decision that i am very bad at making BIG decisions. i tend to mill them around in my head until there is nothing left but a mushy pulp. you cant do much with a mushy pulp of a decision.
that being said, i have to make a decision comparing a few things:
1. quality of life - do i want to work 60+ hours a week? drive to SE DC? wear suits and be up a clients ass 24/7?
2. do i go for the prestige of BP vs. the no name of PPC? - this means a lot when you look past the upcoming position at name recognition for the following job.
3. bird in the hand vs. two in the bush - i hate that expression, but it fits. current company is offering what i want right now. no questions asked. BP i have to prove myself, establish contacts, make friends, and bust ass to get a chance of having what is offered here. but if i get there, it is major for me.
like i said at the beginning of this mind puke, this is more for me. however i am always willing to take advise. if you have a nugget you would like to drop, feel free.
either way, thanks for listening.

If two companies are offering you jobs now, chances are you won't have a problem getting an offer later down the road.
Provided you've got enough money stashed away to feel comfortable, you should stay where you are if you're happy. If not, go for the change.
As for the name recognition; a long stay with a single company is often very attactive to employers so I wouldn't put too much emphasis on it.
